A comprehensive web-accessible database for all things Greek in Canada.

The Greek Language in Canada web portal is a hub for programs, community organizations, events and resources aimed to support and further Greek language education in Canada. Greeklanguage.ca is the result of an ongoing community-based research project based on a doctoral study at the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

The main design concept for the website was to "go all out on the Greekness," using a bright pastel palette and fun accompanying illustrations. Depictions of the Acropolis and iconic amphitheatre can be found on some of the website's main pages. Our star character, an Ancient Greek soldier, was appropriately named Tzatziki and also appears throughout the site.

The idea was to amp up the "Greekness" with recognizable symbols like the classic Greek pillar or even Tzatziki, our ancient Greek character.
As an on-going community initiative, it was important that the Greek Language site had the capability to accept submissions.

Reaching out to the Community

Found at the bottom of each main category page is an open call for contributions, where visitors are presented with an opportunity to submit new programs, events, organizations, or resources. Originally, we had intended for a set of questions to appear that could help visitors input information in small digestible steps. As we proceeded further with the project however, it seemed to be easier for users to input information within a category-specific form.
